Hi guys,

Nowadays everyone wants to feel free. If you are an employee in a big company you know that is almost impossible to take independent decisions! You have working time and you should adhere the company’s rules. But if you are a rebel who want to break the chains that you bind you the solution is FREELANCING!

Hello Freelancing!

Ok, you decided to leave your current job and become a Freelance Marketer. Wait, wait, wait for it! To being freelancer is not as easy as it looks. One of the biggest challenge you will face is the fierce competition. So many people with similar skills like yours and you don’t know how to be unique. Never say die! Firstly, you should prepare and success will come. Let’s do together!

Evaluating your strengths and weaknesses

I think this is the first step in Freelancing! Take a breath and write down on a paper your strengths. Think about how you can use them in your future career as Freelancer. After that write down on a paper how you can earn money. Always learn new things in order to improve your skills. The better professional you are, the more money you will earn. Don’t underestimate yourself, but don’t forget your weaknesses. In this case it’s important to work on them. Everyone has weaknesses. Ask yourself “How can I become better professional”. For instance, I often waste my time and I realised that I have to be more focused. I knew I couldn’t working on this way. I started using different apps to manage my time better.

You can ask your friends what they see as your strengths and weaknesses and you will have 2 opinions – yours and friends’. So you will understand whether what you think about yourself coincides with others’ opinion. Don’t be afraid of your weaknesses, look for information how to improve them and how to turn them into strengths.

Determine your niche

How to determine your niche

The key to be successful Freelance Digital Marketer is to carefully define your niche. My advice is to choose a niche where you have professional experience. If you have any hobby you can focus on this and do what you love. Sometimes to find your niche can be really difficult.

Marketing is a general concept and includes:

  • social media marketing;
  • search engine marketing (SEM);
  • search engine optimisation (SEO);
  • Pay per click (PPC);
  • online advertising;
  • online PR;
  • marketing automation;
  • content marketing;
  • affiliate marketing;
  • email marketing and etc.

Which is your favourite niche? Each of these niches has advantages and disadvantages, but the most important thing is to be an expert!

Brand yourself

Creating a personal brand is similar to product branding. Firstly, you can create a professional blog or website in order to show your skills. Some reasons why you should have own website or blog:

  • everyone is on the Internet – your future clients and partners;
  • share your experience;
  • increase your popularity through free e-books, webinars and etc.
  • convert your visitors into customers;
  • “it’s your voice” – be unique!

Secondly, you can promote yourself via social medias. Share your articles, thoughts to get more followers and fans. I guess you know Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, Pinterest 😀 Be active always in social medias!

Third, be part of events and conferences. You will have the opportunity to learn the latest tendencies and  trends, speak with lecturers and potential clients. Don’t forget to give them your business card.

 Build your portfolio

Before you create your own portfolio my advice is to make searching in Interner or in SlideShare for inspiration and ideas.

Don’t miss:

  • education;
  • skills;
  • awards and recognition;
  • projects;
  • samples of your work;
  • clients;
  • contacts with you.

Make your portfolio perfect, because it’s your weapon. The competition is high and you need to impress them with your professionalism. Use tools to visualise your portfolio like:

Getting started as a Freelance Digital Marketer

Getting start as a Freelancer

First of all create your goals! What is your main reason to being Freelancer? Some people combine their current job with Freelance (like me 😛 ), but some people throw in deep and decide it to being only Freelancer without permanent job. To be honest I share with you some advantages and disadvantages to combine Freelance with you current job:

Some advantages:

  • you receive a permanent salary from your current job and don’t worry if this month you don’t have any Freelance job;
  • additional income to your financial situation;
  • if you feel bored at work, Freelance job is perfect way to move your brain;
  • the opportunity to meet interesting people with interesting projects;
  • learn new things.

Some disadvantages:

  • overhelm – to combine 2 jobs is hard;
  • you can’t concentrate;
  • too many responsibilities.

Maybe you’ve already googled Top websites for finding Freelance jobs. Yep, you are on the right path. When I started my career as Freelancer I registered in Upwork  Suddenly I started getting an invitations for jobs from clients. Do not despair if nobody approach you. As I said you will have many competitors, so be unique in order to win in this “game”.

Find your first client

You are a truly Freelancer if you’ve already found your first client! My first client found me in Upwork. But after that other clients suddenly appeared. I was so happy, I felt like a Master.

Some tips to finding new clients:

  • plenty of webistes for Freelance jobs;
  • be proactive and send proposal to potential clients;
  • searching in LinkedIn – you can contact with people to promote your services;
  • Busness networking events;
  • Talk with your friends;

I know sometimes is hard to find a client, but do not despair! It takes time!

It was my pleasure to share my thoughts about Freelancing! I believe this is the future and it is good opportunity! Please, share your good or bad experience! 🙂

Feel free to share with your friends 😛
